Optemax, LLC wins contract
with the Navy
Optemax, LLC of Ellicott City, MD, an exclusive licensee of mobile optical wireless
technologies from the Johns Hopkins University Applied
Physics Laboratory announced today it has received
a research contract from NAVAIR to develop a solution
for providing high speed data links from unmanned
aerial systems (UAS’s).
“This gives us an opportunity to prove the enormous
potential of our BeamNet® technologies
and to serve our country,” states Shirley D. Collier
C.E.O. of Optemax. Optemax’s proprietary BeamNet®
wireless technologies can transmit data up to a terabit
per second. “In layman’s terms, says Tom Collier,
Chief Technology Officer, “that’s the ability to transmit
9 DVD’s in one second. Our technologies are
18,000 times faster than Wi-Max, the current standard
for wireless transmission.”
The distinguishing characteristics of BeamNet®
in addition to its ultra high speed are the ability
to interface directly into fiber optics, provide connectivity
to mobile users and operate within a network.
Indoor, terrestrial, aerial and satellite versions
of the technology are planned. These technologies
will benefit commercial industries as well.
Examples include indoor wireless personal and local
area networks to accommodate next generation gaming
for entertainment, medical and education purposes,
HDTV transmission from aerial vehicles, and high speed
internet access from automobiles, trains and airplanes.
